We’re excited to announce the upcoming beta release of our re-developed Data Explorer in a Borealis demo repository on Tuesday, August 27, 2024!
This new tool combines the functionalities of the previous Data Explorer and Data Curation tools into a single, accessible web application. The new Data Explorer allows users to explore variables, visualize, analyze, and subset data, while authorized curators and depositors can add and edit variable-level metadata for data curation workflows.
Key features in beta release of the new Data Explorer:
- Updated and accessible web interface, fully integrated with Borealis
- Improved experience for mobile-device users
- Updated navigation and icons
- New variable searching, filtering, viewing, and exploration
- New cross-tabulation calculator for creating tables and chart visualizations
- Build cross-tabulation tables and charts by adding variables to rows or columns
- Refine and customize tables and charts
- Download tables and charts
- New Import DDI XML feature for depositors and curators
The new Data Explorer will be released in beta on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. A link to the beta Data Explorer in Borealis Demo will be shared via email and on this SPOTDocs Blog, and a feedback form will be provided for you to share questions, comments, or concerns.

We anticipate an official launch of the new Data Explorer in late fall 2024. We are in the process of updating existing documentation and creating new resources, including a video tutorial, which will be available in English and French in advance of the launch.
