Editing (and improving) Migrated Content
The content on this page needs to be reformatted. What should I do?
As you navigate SPOTDocs, you may find that some migrated content does not display exactly like it did in the previous SPOTDocs platform. This can happen for several reasons and may be attributed to how the content was originally created or formatted (e.g., use/omission of headers, line breaks or multi-columns), minor incompatibilities between the previous platform (Confluence) and our current one (XWiki), and/or unexpected errors during the migration process. Scholars Portal and OCUL staff, led by the SPOTDocs support team, are working to correct these errors as we encounter them and reformat content on an on-going basis.
If you have editing rights and are comfortable reformatting the content, please do so. If you would like assistance, please email docs@scholarsportal.info, the relevant Scholars Portal Service lead, or ocul@ocul.on.ca.
The page link I clicked tells me that the “Page does not exist” or doesn’t work. What should I do?
While we were able to migrate the vast majority of content on the previous SPOTDocs platform, there may still be some instances where a page may be missing, or a link is not correct and needs to be updated.
Scholars Portal and OCUL staff, led by the SPOTDocs support team, are working to correct these links as they are encountered. This work is on-going and we invite SPOTDocs users to assist with this process.
Links with question marks at the end
If you see a link with a question mark, this means that the link is directing to an empty page. When this happens, the page either does not exist in SPOTDocs or it is not in the location that the platform expects. You will encounter these question marks more frequently on migrated pages from the previous SPOTDocs.

If you have editing rights for the page, you may be able to fix this link. To do so:
- Switch into page editing mode by clicking the ‘Edit’ button at the top right of the page. You need to be in editing mode to make this change.
- Click on the link and select the link icon.
- Re-type the page name in the ‘Page’ field to see if a page appears in the drop-down menu. Check the breadcrumb menu under the suggested page to confirm it is the correct page / location.
- If you locate the correct page, select the page and click ‘Ok’ to update the link.
- If no page is found, please email docs@scholarsportal.info, the relevant Scholars Portal Service lead, or ocul@ocul.on.ca. OCUL and Scholars Portal staff will find the missing page on the previous SPOTDocs, recreate the page in the current platform, and update the link.
📝 In other (more rare) instances, a page with a question mark icon may not have migrated properly and needs to be recreated. For example, a small number of pages and attachments with special characters have been identified as having migration errors and are currently being repaired by the SPOTDocs team.
Links that direct back to the previous SPOTDocs platform
Some links may direct back to the previous SPOTDocs platform, depending on how the link was created (e.g., a relative link vs. an absolute one). Additionally, links from one SPOTDocs space to another may not have been preserved.
Links to the previous SPOTDocs are treated as external links, and will display the external link icon.

If you have editing rights for the page, you may be able to fix this link. To do so:
- Switch into page editing mode by clicking the ‘Edit’ button at the top right of the page.
- Click on the link and select the link icon.
- Retype the page name in the ‘Page’ field to see if a page appears in the drop-down menu. Check the breadcrumb menu under the suggested page to confirm it is the correct page / location.
- If you locate the correct page, select the page and click ‘Ok’ to update the link.
- If you are unable to locate the correct page and/or are unsure which page this link should be directed to, please email docs@scholarsportal.info, the relevant Scholars Portal Service lead, or ocul@ocul.on.ca. OCUL and Scholars Portal staff can access the previous SPOTDocs platform and update the link.
📝 February 20 2024 update: The previous SPOTDocs platform is currently in read-only mode. In the coming weeks, access to this platform will be restricted to SP and OCUL staff IPs and the previous site URL will redirect to the new SPOTDocs. In the interim, you may be able to follow the link to the previous platform to confirm the correct page and then make the change on the new platform.
📝 If you do not have editing rights, you can still participate in gardening around our new SPOTDocs home. Please let us know if you have difficulty finding or accessing information on the new platform (e.g., if you find a missing attachment or spot a broken link) by emailing any of the channels listed above.
