Information about Pickup Anywhere Feature

Pickup anywhere configuration allows two things:

• Hold Requests Pickup Anywhere: Allows patrons of one Omni institution to place a request for an item from their local library and select to have it picked up at a circulation desk with a hold shelf at a location at another Omni library.
• Borrowing Resource Sharing Requests Pickup Anywhere: When a patron of an Omni partner institution places a Resource Sharing Request for a physical item via Omni’s resource sharing request form, the patron can choose a pickup location at any Omni institution and at any location within that institution with a hold shelf.
  • Note: this is true for requests for physical items which are satisfied by the AFN (other Omni partners) and is also true for all Alma resource sharing borrowing requests as more partners are added to Alma (example: ISO borrowing resource sharing requests placed by your patrons which are satisfied by a non-Omni partner).

Notes

• Any location with an active hold shelf at your institution will be available for any patron across the Omni network to select for pick up of a requested physical item.
• To hide locations, this has to be done via CSS at each member institution.

• Once enabled, an authenticated patron will see the following in the GET IT section for a HOLD request:

• This hold request:
  • Will be defaulted to their home institution
  • The PICKUP LOCATION dropdown displays only the pickup locations at the selected PICKUP INSTITUTION
• Once enabled, an authenticated patron will see the following in the HOW TO GET IT section for a Borrowing Resource Sharing Request:

• The How to Get It section:
  • Defaults to their home institution
  • The PREFERRED LOCAL PICKUP LOCATION dropdown displays only the pickup locations at the selected PICKUP INSTITUTION
  • If the patron changes the PREFERRED PICKUP INSTITUTION dropdown, a new field will display: PREFERRED PICKUP LOCATION which will only show the pickup location at the selected preferred pickup institution
  • They’ll still be required to select a PREFERRED LOCAL PICKUP LOCATION in the event that the item they request is not eligible to be picked up at another institution (eg: ISO Borrowing Resource Sharing Request)
• Note: if you have a curbside pickup and/or mail location at your library, these will be displayed to other Omni partners patrons as well

Once this is implemented, there is a documented procedure for testing whether it works correctly.
